It’s January 2nd. Day 2 of 2023. Only 363 more days to go.
To what?
What will the end of 2023 look like for you.
Woah, slow down, you might say, we only just begun. Give me a break, it’s only Monday morning. I haven’t even been into the office this year yet.
Me neither.
If you’re like me, you have some goals. You’ve got this desire in you that at the end of 2023, you desire to have a feeling of accomplishment that you finished something you started. Like in 2022, you set goals and at the end of the year you could say, “Hey! I did it!” (That can be an excited or surprised response, by the way.)
Like at the end of a hard day. Not those hard depressing days when blue jazz seems to be playing as you’re driving home to work in the rain and the rain drops are streaming down the passenger windows. I mean after a day where you really felt like you did it. You know, it. The thing you set out to do, or the project was completed, or you had that hard conversation.
It’s after a hard day of yard work, and your weeds have disappeared to reveal the beautiful flowers underneath.
That sigh when you lay down at the end of the day, yep, I made it. Today was a good day.
Could that be your 2023?
I think so.
May I encourage you with some resolutions that I’m working on this year for me and my family; for my work and my marriage?
Here’s a few that I’ve put together for this year:
- Read 52 books
- Run 600 miles
- Date my wife, regularly
- Go camping
- Spend intentional time with my kids
- Build and present a project that is net new at work
- Write 26 blog posts
- Learn something new
Feel free to borrow any of mine if you’d like. Or not.
If there was one you could borrow, could it be the last—Learn something new.
I’m really interested in the topic of learning. I’m asking questions like how do people learn, why do people learn, how does our brain work? Can I learn something new? So this goal I’m excited to explore. I’m curious about launching a podcast, writing a book, elevating my writing.
So I’m going to pursue learning how this might work.
Learning keeps me excited and passionate about moving forward. The intrigue of not knowing something excites me to explore, ask questions, and then share what I’ve learned.
In 2021, I had the opportunity to attend a conference, virtually. It was the first time I had heard John Maxwell. And I was hooked. It set me on a journey to begin learning about leadership in ways that I had never done before. I would say it drastically changed my life. It awoke a desire in me to learn more about leadership and sharing that with others.
It’s easier to work on goals that you’re passionate about.
This year, I’m focusing on learning.
I invite you to learn with me. To build a culture of learning, a people who are passionate about learning, not any specific topic, but learning in general.
It was Albert Einstein who is credited for saying, “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.”
I’m looking forward to learning this year.
What about you?
