“As you stand with one foot still on the road to average and one foot on the road to awesome, you’ve got to kill those concerns [fears screaming don’t do it and do it all at once!]. Fortunately, there’s a trick that will take career of them both. Just start.”
Jon Acuff
From me: Jon Acuff opens up Start with a personal story of traveling on an airplane. (We used to fly airplanes a lot more, this reality seems like so long ago…) It was on this plane that a woman asked him how she was to get started on her goals when all the excuses of not starting were gone. She didn’t know how to start. She thought she had missed her chance. She thought her age disqualified her from starting on her goals. She thought that she couldn’t start.
But it can.
That’s the value of this book. Acuff provides a comical, hope-filled, pragmatic guide to getting started on what he calls, “the road to awesome.”
For you: You might have a lot of goals or some big dreams. And that’s good. We all need something to work towards and look forward to, but don’t just let your dreams be dreams. Accomplishing dreams has a start. And it’s small. And that’s okay. Acuff reminds us of that.
If you’ve written down some goals for this year and you thought just like me, “How do I start?” or even, “Where do I start?” check out this book. Jon Acuff’s down-to-earth style and comical anecdotes (often involving his own thought processes) will help you, and anyone, start on their journey to awesome—a full, whole, and exciting life.
Pick it up and you’ll be invited into your start, which is always the first step to seeing your goals done.
